Richard J. Baskin, Esq.,
has handled numerous premises security cases and recently obtained two major
plaintiff verdicts including a multi-million dollar verdict against a convenience
store. He is a partner at Van Blois, Knowles, Schwartz & Baskin in Oakland, California.
Mark H. Beaudry, CPP, is a risk insurance specialist and independent security consultant in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His academic and professional background in lodging security includes a Master's degree in security management, ten years as Director of Safety and Security at a major Boston hotel, and acting as an official in local, national and international security organizations. Jean Chaney is a contributing co-editor of this publication. She is a paralegal specialist, researcher and writer in the field of premises liability for violent crimes. She independently authored two books on the subject and was published by the California Trial Lawyer's Association as a part of their California Litigation Techniques seminar series in 1994. She holds an Arizona Community College Technical Credential. Robert Feliciano, CPP, having begun his law enforcement career over thirty years ago, consults on police procedures and private security. He holds a number of professional certifications and has authored several professional papers and articles on the subject of security guards, police procedures and liability issues. Lance R. Foster, CPP, CFE, is an independent security consultant specializing in financial institution security. His nearly thirty years of professional security and law enforcement experience includes teaching college level courses in criminal justice management, criminalistics, criminology, and computer fraud and holding the position of Vice President, Security Manager for Florida Federal Savings Bank. Timothy M. Freudenberger, Esq., a partner with Faustman, Carlton, DiSante & Freudenberger in Irvine, California, specializes in labor and employment law. He is a member of the Labor and Employment Law sections of the American Bar Association and Orange County Bar Associations and has published numerous articles on legal issues relating to privacy in the workplace and arbitration of employment disputes. Daniel J. Herling, Esq., is a partner at Gordon & Rees, LLP, in San Francisco and specializes in premises liability, employment issues and defense of professionals, including security guard companies. He is a member of the State Bars of California and Pennsylvania, the Association of Defense Counsels of Northern California, and serves as Vice Chair of the Professional Liability Committee for the Defense Research Institute. Robert J. Homant, Ph.D., is chairman of the Department of Criminal Justice and Security Administration at the University of Detroit Mercy, Detroit, Michigan. He previously worked as a prison psychologist. Alan Kaminsky, Esq., is a partner at Wilson, Elser, Mokowitz, Edelman & Dicker, the largest defense firm in the country. He supervises a team of premises security attorneys and has obtained more than ten defense verdicts during the past several years. Mr. Kaminsky has written and lectured extensively on the topic of defense strategies for premises security cases. Daniel B. Kennedy, Ph.D., CPP, CCS, is a professor of Criminal Justice and Security Administration at the University of Detroit Mercy, Detroit, Michigan as well as forensic consultant/expert witness in litigations concerning allegations of inadequate security. Dr. Kennedy has served as a visiting lecturer extensively on the topic of defense strategies for premises security cases. David R. Kent, CPP, currently a forensic security consultant, served as a public safety practitioner with the New Orleans Police Department for over twenty-one years. He specializes in liability, negligence and malpractice, with focus on urban crime foreseeability analysis in crime victim recovery litigation. Tiffany Welch Klein, Esq., is an associate at the law firm of Gordon & Rees in San Francisco. She has litigation experience with emphasis on products liability, toxic tort liability, premises liability and personal injury/tort defense. She received her J.D. from the Santa Clara School of Law. Gerald A O'Rourke, CPP, is an independent security management consultant based in New York City. He has extensive experience conducting risk analysis and security surveys of high-rise, multi-tenant residential cooperatives, condominiums and commercial buildings. His thirty years of experience in law enforcement and security management includes the writing of training programs for security personnel. Larry B. Perkins, CPP, serves as an assistant general manager facility and guest services for Giants Stadiums and Continental Airlines Arena at Meadowlands in New Jersey. He is responsible for administrative activities including event planning, policy development and event operations. Additionally, he acts as the facility's representative for corporate litigations. Ann H. Qushalr, Esq., specializes in the representation of management in labor and employment for the firm of Faustman, Carlton, DiSante & Freudenberger, LLP in Irvine, California. She received her J.D. from Cornell University where she was a general editor of the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy. Rax J. Rakow is a director of University Security / Police at University of Notre Dame and began his distinguished career in campus law enforcement in 1971. He holds a Masters of Science degree in Institutional Administration and attended the FBI management training program for law enforcement executives and the U.S. Secret Service Dignitary Protection School. Bill Zalud is the editorial director of SECURITY Magazine, the world's largest circulation magazine covering private security, and SDM Magazine, a monthly magazine for security dealers and installers. Mr. Zalud writes and publishes a security industry trends newsletter and is a frequent speaker on topics ranging from quality in security, integrated security systems to technology trends in private security. |
